Our quaint village of Tufivia is surrounded by luscious rainforests, spectacular caves and breathtaking cliff-tops views. Freediving trips like this offer incredibly special whale encounters for snorkellers and freedivers. Tonga humpback whales are like the puppies of the sea, curiously playful sometimes spending an hour or more with us singing their songs. This will be an intimate group expedition for maximum enjoyment and wonderfully peaceful experiences for us and the whales. At this time of year we expect dreamy tropical weather of 29°C (84°F) in the day and cooler evening temperatures with visibility of 30m+ (98ft).
Eua is the closest island to the Tonga Trench; a deep oceanic trench lapping with warm, safe, tropical waters where Humpback whales breed and birth their calves. We are the only boat operating in this area and our trips are guided by a local Captain, a marine biologist and your expert freediving instructors.

Our Tonga Freediving Trips don’t require freediving experience however, you must be a confident and experienced snorkeller. We’ll provide basic Freediving training to help maximise your comfort, skills and breath-holds. Freediving courses aren’t available during this trip as we’ll be too busy hanging out with whales! Accommodation: we have shared rooms and private couples rooms available. We’ll coordinate your preferences upon booking.
Travel: bring your own travel insurance and flights to Tonga. Your return flight from Tonga to Eua Island is included on 24 and 30 July. We will all need to leave the resort on the final day, flying from 2pm.

We’ll spend 5 days of the week in Tonga diving with whales, cruising Eua’s Humpback Highway on two boats. Our expeditions are guided by a local Captain, marine biologist and two highly experienced Freediving experts with extensive experience and knowledge diving with whales, having previously worked with the famous marine biologist, Nan Hauser on an expedition to study them as well as being a safety diver on National Geographic’s documentary series ‘Secrets of the Whales’.
On arrival day, we’ll be settling in and fun diving the beautiful reefs of our resort shores. Sunday is a Holy Day so this will be a rest day for you to relax or join the the island tour. We’ll also have time throughout the trip for fun diving, line diving, underwater cave exploration and bonfires on the beach watching the stunning sunsets.

Your Humpback Tonga Trip includes return flights from Fuaʻamotu International Airport (TBU) to Eua Island on 24 and 30 July – we’ll book this for you. Eua is a 7 minute flight over the Humpback Highway or a 2 hour ferry. We recommend departing Tonga mainland on 31 July as domestic flight delays can occur.
